Hey reader, it's Perry here.
I was gonna go all fancy and do some cool visual shit to show you the trajectory of the vision for where we are going, but my gut told me to write a very simple-looking letter instead. And the older I get the more I learn to never question my gut. So here I am.
When it comes to the vision of what we're doing here, it goes back to me as a child. Back to one of my first-ever memories of sitting in front of the TV, and I think to myself "I want to be on that". It goes to me in my teens in acting class when I'm on stage in A Doll's House and I was the most alive I had ever felt. It goes to me sitting in a packed-out cinema and looking around at everyone who were all from different walks of life, yet they were together under one roof for one reason… to get lost in a story. And it goes to my dying need to get powerful true stories onto the big screen so it can help as many people as possible.
I never 'chose' to be an actor. It's a path I feel was already laid out for me. However, although I tried many times, I wasn't cut out to walk the 'traditional' path of acting. I knew what I wanted to do and I knew what I didn't want to do, and I wasn't going to comprise. So I set out on a slight pivot back in 2013/2014. And it was 9 or so years later where I realised that I was on this planet to do more than just 'act'. I was here to create stories of change (whether I was acting in it or not).
After I broke my silence, shared my story and released my book, things took off. And one day I had a vision where I was on set for my own film about my story. I was the lead. Me playing me. And as I started writing my script for it a short while later, a survivor reached out to me and asked if I could help her write her story. Which I did. And a fire lit inside of me because I knew it needed to be a film. It NEEDED to be on the big screen. And it wasn't too long before I had another vision where I was sitting at a desk with a pile of pitch decks and I was looking through them to see which ones to put forward into production. But they weren't just any pitch decks. For some reason I had a personal connection to them, almost like I had a part to play in their creation.
Then BAM…
"I need to create my own projects" I thought. The vision of the production company came first, which then led me to reverse engineer it back to a starting point which would springboard everything; Powerful Books, my publishing company. Helping trauma survivors write their inspiring stories.
This way we're creating our own in-house ecosystem of stories being produced. All stories are based on true events. All stories have an important message. And all stories have the 'viral' factor.
Story > Book > Reel > Film
We have the books and reels on lock (with the reels getting millions of views consistently on social media). Now it's time for films.
I believe the real change-makers in this world are those who have been to hell and back. And it's these stories that we need out there in the world.
This mission goes far beyond motivation. It's purpose. It's why I truly believe I'm alive on this planet. To be a platform for others to not only find their voice, but to use it to help others. Because once you've experienced what it's like to live in silence, to feel alone, and to constantly be in survival mode…
But then you break free from all of that…
All you then want is for others to not have to go through the same thing.
Every night for at least the last 10 years I have gone to sleep visualising this whole thing coming true. I couldn't work out the pieces of the puzzle and how they would come together, but I saw the picture. And I held onto it.
And now?
The pieces are coming together more and more.
We have powerful books out there in the world changing lives. And soon we'll have powerful films doing that too.
Just remember that your voice is the most powerful thing you have. Once you find it, never let it go.
Keep fighting. Keep thriving. And keep dreaming.
Be powerful,
Perry.
