Don’t we all sometimes wish for a perfect life?
We wish we didn’t experience the trauma, our first heartbreak, losing that job or missing that opportunity of a lifetime?
I get it, we’re all human and the society we live in now programs us to want more, be more and have more.
How about we take a second, and look at our life with an outsider’s pair of eyes?
Would they think maybe our life is… perfect?
Experiencing abuse and trauma doesn’t make our life any less.
If anything, it should shine a light that ours is real.
In a world where people are controlled by the opinions of others, ruled by this green bit of paper called ‘money’, we all hold a secret power—
and that is that we survived our trauma.
Probably with little help and the tools to survive… but we did it.
We got through.
Did it take us through hell and back? Yes.
But we now know we are capable of walking through the fire.
Doesn’t that add something extra special in our lives?
No one else can copy that.
We only have one life and some will say it was God or destiny,
but it was given to us because we are strong enough to live it.
The key to life, I’ve grown to realise, is not about having to fix it or change it,
but letting it be and enhancing what you already have.
I could have chosen to stay silent with my abuse,
or once I found this amazing community,
decided it was time to share it with the world,
in the hopes that one day that one person may not see their life as a burden to carry—
but a life to be lived.
The trials and tribulations life gives you
are not because there is a golden trophy waiting at the end for you or the dream life you always wanted.
No.
What it does is shape you into the person you are meant to be,
and provides you with the gratitude to live the life you deserve.
There’s no one else who can do it quite like Sonam.
And I’m proud to be her.
You should be proud to be you too.
